Patrick Malone, the author of the software, is available to answer your questions at: (800)514-4583 and also via email at: He enjoys getting email and hearing from customers, so don't hesitate to call or write! Built-in Help and User ManualThe software contains a built-in help and user manual. To access the information, launch the PocketTest program, and from the main screen, tap the menu button (just below the little house) and select the "Help" menu. Frequently Asked Questions About PocketTest
The program includes all the questions that are in the Gleim book. I have scanned as many of the figures as possible for display within the program as part of the question, but some large images are simply unreadable on the small screen, or need to be measured on paper using a plotter, like maps. The questions are organized into three levels to allow you to study as much as possible using whatever equipment you have at hand:
The vast majority of the questions are usually in level 1. However, in order to prepare completely for the written exam, you will eventually need to tackle the level 3 questions, and therefore, you need the book. See more information about these features in the program's online help menu. I already have a Jeppesen, ASA, or other FAA test-prep book. Can I use my book rather than purchasing the Gleim book for use with the software?Yes, you can. The figures in all the test-prep books come from the same source - the FAA Computer Testing Supplement. But there are two reasons that I recommend using the Gleim book.
Consequently, it will take more time to find the correct page if using another book. How often do you update the software?PocketTests are updated on a schedule that coincides with the Gleim book printings. Gleim revises their books as necessary to maintain currency with changes by the FAA. You will be notified by email when an update becomes available. How do I get my registration key?The software can be run in "demo" mode without a registration key, but this limits the questions to only one category. To unlock the full database, you can purchase a registration key online at www.pocketTest.com. How do I find my HotSync name for the registration? It is important that you enter the Hotsync Name on the order form exactly as it appears on your PalmPilot. Refer to How to Find Your HotSync Name for detailed instructions. I purchased the software, but the registration key doesn't work. What's the deal?!First, make sure you have the latest version of the software. You can download it from www.pocketTest.com . Next, make sure you entered the correct HotSync name on the order form. For instructions on how to determine your HotSync name, see How to Find Your HotSync Name. If you accidentally entered the wrong Hotsync name, contact
Patrick at 256-370-7373 or What is a PalmPilot?A PalmPilot is a Personal Digital Assistant(PDA), or handheld computer, which comes with several built-in organizer functions, but it can also run add-on software like PocketTest. The original device was made by Palm Computing and called the PalmPilot. Now there are several Palm-OS compatible devices made by different companies, including Palm, Handspring, IBM, TRG and others. Prices range from $149 and up, depending on memory, style, and features. A PalmPilot with 2MB or more memory has plenty of memory to run a PocketTest program. In fact, you could store all the PocketTests for all the aviation written exams on a 2MB PalmPilot if you didn't use it for anything else! That's a wonderful thing when you consider the pile of books that it replaces. For the latest prices on PDA's, visit a place like www.palmgear.com or www.computershopper.com . How about a WindowsCE or PocketPC-compatible version?Sorry, not yet. But it's on my list. Send me an email with "PocketPC" or "WindowsCE" in the subject, and I'll notify you when it becomes available. I think there's a problem with the 'Review' feature. It doesn't seem to do anything when I tap the button. To use the Review feature:
Here's a more detailed explanation of how the Review feature works: As you answer the questions, the program moves the questions that you have answered into an answered pile, and removes them from the unanswered pile. When you have finished a category (or anytime in between), you can tap the reset button, and are given the option to clear all questions or review the incorrectly-answered questions. If you choose clear, all questions in the answered pile are placed back in the unanswered pile. If you choose review, only the incorrectly-answered questions are placed back in the unanswered pile. The next time you tap the Quiz button, you will be presented with the questions from the unanswered pile. For more information on this and other advanced features, see the online Help menu within the PocketTest program. I just updated with the new revision... and it seems to not be in english, did I download the wrong program and how do I get it back to the english version? If the database appears to be in a foreign language, shame on you. :) You didn't follow directions. Remove the old version of the software before you install the new version. Click here for instructions on how to remove the old version. updated 2/5/2001 |
